The Wharf Tavern Mooloolaba
Still No. 1, and then some...
The Newly Renovated Wharf Tavern, sexy successor to the
popular party pad Friday's.
Renovation Sensation:
THE facade might seem the same but once you step inside the fresh-faced
Wharf Tavern you realise every dollar in excess of $2 million allocated
to its chic metamorphosis has been well worth it.
Sleek leather couches and ottomans in hues of chocolate and cream
have replaced bar stools and steel tables, while trendy light fixtures
dangle from the soaring ceilings, illuminating the space in style.
Sitting back comfortably in the aptly named Lounge Bar while a yacht
cruises by on the Mooloolah River in the background, is venue manger
Trevor Budd who has played an integral part in this venue since it
opened as Friday's in 1988.
The Tavern has been a local icon for years. It has had small nips
and tucks over the years and when MGW Hotels decided to renovate, their
goal was a complete makeover.
"It took about
12 months to be completed but people still walk in
and say `Wow, what have they done here?' When you walk in it is virtually
a brand new venue,'' Trevor said.
The Wharf Tavern, a sophisticated, sexy successor to popular party
pad, Friday's, is situated on approximately 1500sqm. Glass sliding
doors run the length of the venue and open up completely to invite
views of calming water and impeccable riverfront architecture.
The Wharf Tavern consists of six separate entertainment spaces, each
with its own style and personality. They include and the WT Char Restaurant,
the River Bar and Lounge, the Public Bar, Courtyard Bar, Gaming Lounge
and upstairs nightclub where the State Room Bar is situated.
The renovation will soon advance to the upper level and a few finishing
touches are to be added downstairs, such as glass panels across the
front of the outer deck and a premium wine section along the Wharf
Cellar Wine Wall.
A welcome addition is its predominantly smoke-free areas which account
for almost 70 per cent of the building. Smoking is permitted where
the green signs indicate while smoke-free dining and lounging spaces
enjoy superb ventilation.
No stone has been left unturned with the interior's classy look and
delicate touches extend to the bathrooms with elite tap fixtures and
marble-clad vanities.
The Wharf Tavern has put out the welcome mat for a variety of patrons
as part of it's evolution into much more than just a late night venue.
Ramps allow easy access for wheelchairs and prams, and disabled facilities
are provided.
"We have several respite and care centres choosing to have their
lunches here. They spend the day enjoying an affordable meal, sit by
the water and later go for a browse through the shops,'' he said.
Formerly a chef himself, Trevor was responsible for setting up the
original kitchen on the premises. His background and experience make
him just the man to head this diverse entertainment venue. I have a
great team working with me. It is critical to have a good team where
individuals focus on specific areas. When you put them all together
in the same room you virtually have a console and a button for every
area so we know exactly what is going on,' he said.
